10:13PM - Registration 2011/2012
Hope everyone is doing well on their exams and if you're finished, congratulations!
Ok so I have a question, specifically for those who are in their last year or anyone else who may know this. And I'll say off the bat that I already asked the registrars office about this and they didn't give me the information I was exactly looking for.
June 20th is the proposed start date for registration for 2011/2012 courses. Does anyone remember what time the fourth year registration opened up last summer, or even previous years? I'm just finishing my third year and I remember it opening up at 10am for me, I think.
I ask this because I have an appointment to get my wisdom teeth out early that morning and I'm worried that I will miss the opening and when I get home will head straight to bed as I will probably be incapable of even using a computer at that point. I'm going into my fourth year and I'm at Kings so the classes fill up really fast and I don't want to burn on getting my first choice or not being able to get into classes at all. I'm trying to avoid changing the appointment as that's already the earliest it can get done and I just want to get it over with. The registrar's office suggested having someone register for me but I'm trying to avoid that as well. Anything that anyone can remember about registration times from previous years may be helpful.

8:14AM - Convocation Attire
Does anyone know if I can still rent the gown and hood from Western if I don't attend my convocation? I'm supposed to do some graduation/family portraits in the afternoon the day of my ceremony, but more and more the idea of attending is becoming unappealing. Do you think I can still rent attire the day of? Or do they have a list that says who can and who can't?

What are some good places on campus to get healthy vegetarian meals?

I'm looking for a really high quality hair salon in London. I'm looking for someplace in the price range of $50 or less for a hair cut, but I'd be willing to pay more if it's worth it! Any suggestions?

11:44AM - web registration
I've looked on the UWO sites but can't find anything. When exactly does winter web registration open up again?

I recently moved into an apartment with my friend but cannot stay due to personal matters. I'm very disappointed because it was my dream apartment! It is $500 all inclusive (cable, internet, hydro, and tenant's insurance).
Freshly painted, this apartment has two bedrooms, one of which you would fill. there are nice clean carpets and a balcony overlooking Mornington Ave. It's on the third floor of a nice three storey low rise building in a neighbourhood surrounded by other apartments. there are tons of trees and beautiful places to walk nearby, there is a park for kids and a convenience store with a bus stop within close walking distance.
The building has freshly painted balconies and the landlord lives right there as well. Parking comes with the unit. A friendly declawed cat will be living with you.
Please contact with any inquiries! Comment here or email me at email@example.com. i look forward to hearing back from you!

Is anyone currently in the undergrad linguistics program or took some linguistic or anthropology courses at Western main campus?
I like studying languages (and want to try translating) but I know linguistics is more of the technical or scientific part of language, so I just want some more information about the program in general before considering to switch.
Information/Experience with good courses, boring ones, good profs, any strict requirements to switch in to the program, etc.
And also since it's an interfaculty program, how does that work? Do most people major in another program in Arts or any other faculty and do Linguistics on the side?
And I guess from a future career perspective, what are some jobs people go in to afterwards?
Any info would be great, thanks!

12:23PM - course overload & scholarships
I just dropped a first term half course, and I was thinking of trying to get special permission to take 6 courses next term. Now, what I am most curious about is if I was to do this would I then once again be eligible for scholarships (like King's continuing scholarships etc.) because technically I would have 5.0 for the whole year, though not each term? I am going to speak to an academic counselor about this next week but I just wondered if anyone here has had a similar experience. Thanks.

It's getting close to that time again (midterms) and I'm sick of either procrastinating at home or fighting for a stall at Weldon or Taylor. What are some of your not-so-popular study spots on and off campus? Maybe somewhere cosy with a decent cup of coffee?

8:40AM - Rawr TTG
I tried to apply for the Textbook and Technology Grant and got this message:
The ministry has no record of a processed OSAP application from you for the 2009-2010 academic year to date. To be considered for TTG, you must apply for full-time OSAP assistance. It's true I'm not applying for OSAP (I'm a grad student and don't need a loan). Last year you could apply for the TTG separately from OSAP, though, right? Is this a kick in the pants or am I missing something?

8:07PM - textbooks anyone?
I have a pile of textbooks that I don't need anymore, and I would love to get rid of them. So, I thought I would post here to see if anyone is interested in buying them since I know this class is quite popular.
These textbooks are for Comparative Literature and Culture 1020 (CLC1020).
Titled: Norton Anthology Of World Literature (Volumes A,B,C,D,E,F)
I bought them last year but I know for sure that they're being used this year as well. The books are mostly in really good condition. There is a good amount of highlighting in them and very few notes written in pencil. I also got The Princess of Cleves with the set for free, and since it is being used this year as well, I'll through that in too for free.
The price at the book store for the whole set is $150.
My price is $85.
If anyone is interested please comment here.

Just a few questions about courses for next year:
- Has anyone done an Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences? What is the best way to structure my degree with regards to the disciplines we can choose from?
- Also related to that question - what have your experiences been with courses in Microbiology & Immunology, Pathology, and Pharmacology?
- I want to take some arts and social science electives to add some variety to my schedule. How is the workload in Political Science 1020E and Art History 1040? Would it be too much on top of all of my 3rd and 4th year science courses?
Thanks in advance!

1:17PM - Electives
Has anyone taken or heard anything about Classics 2800 - Classical Roots in English? It was formerly called Classics 100.
I'm considering it as an elective this year so I'd be intrigued to hear stories about it. Thanks

2:13PM - question?
This is probably a very stupid question, but I would appreciate any help...
What is the difference between "Term Average" and "Cumulative Average"? And how do you calculate them?!

11:55AM - Exam question
A friend of mine is taking a stats course at Kings and she's heard through the grapevine that although the final's worth 25%, if you fail the exam you fail the course, no matter what you go into the exam with. They say that it's school policy. Does this hold any merit?

So I signed up to take Computer Science 1026 and 1027 over the summer and then my parents decided that they want to go back to China for a bit. The time that they arranged would be right in the middle of my Computer Science 1026 course (May 15-26). I'd really like to be able to do both, but would it be possible?
I have no experience with summer courses, but considering how there's 6 hours of lectures and 4 lab hours a week, I'm assuming the pace is a lot faster. I'm not too worried about catching up with the lectures since those would be posted online, but what about the labs? And would there be a midterm I should be worried about?
Any help or advice would really be appreciated.

7:49AM - Participants wanted
I am conducting a survey to gather information on undergraduate students' use of Google for academic research. The information that I collect will be used in my master's dissertation. I would gratefully appreciate it if you would take the time out to complete it - it takes about five minutes. All responses will remain anonymous.

Has anyone taken it?
(Does anyone even still watch this comm?)
Thoughts, opinions... on the reading material, the exams, the essays, etc, please! I've signed up to take it online this summer. I'm a little anxious, no idea what to expect :) Oh and I'm NOT an English student, if that might make the course harder for me or something.
